Past as Power: Radical Storytelling as Collective Healing at Brown University

This 90 minute virtual talkback serves as an opportunity for Brown community members to connect with Susan Lieu, learn about her life paths, and discuss methods of radical storytelling, thus creating a space for vulnerability, healing, and empowerment. The event will commence with a performance excerpt of 140 LBS followed by Susan’s explanation of her own healing cycle and the methods of storytelling, commemoration, and family oral history. Participants will have the ability to pose questions to Susan in reaction to her performance, her career, and advice for self-reflection.  The first 60 minutes of the conversation will be moderated by postdoctoral fellow Cindy Nguyen (History, Cogut), Malery Nguyen, and Isabelle Belleza as a Q&A with Susan about arts practice, history and memory, and community storytelling. The last 30 minutes will be an open floor conversation to share reflections, collective storytelling, “Ask Me (Susan) Anything”, making space for creative and personal expression. Private event.
