Blazing Your Own Trail: The "Options" When You're Asian

As a child of Vietnamese refugee nail salon workers, Susan Lieu knew she would only make her family proud if she became a doctor, lawyer, or engineer. Yet after earning a BA from Harvard and an MBA from Yale, she pursued her calling of becoming a one-woman show performer to the dismay of her father.

After a nearly sold-out 10-city national tour and accolades from NPR, LA Times, and The Seattle Times, artist activist Susan is excited to join Highline College's API History Month to share her journey. Part storytelling and part comedy, Susan will tell all about the twists and turns of reconciling her individual passions with her cultural identity -- even if it means disappointing the people she loves most. Her 60-minute virtual talk will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A. Open to the public. Register here.
