Intergenerational Healing and the F Word: Feelings
For many Vietnamese refugees, expressing feelings is shameful and a sign of weakness. But what happens when unresolved PTSD breeds a culture of silence, family dysfunction, impossible standards of beauty, and emotional distance? How can intergenerational healing be possible when no one wants to confront it? Sociologist Professor Haitrieu Nguyen unpacks these complex questions with author Susan Lieu and her memoir The Manicurist’s Daughter.

Co-produced by Vietnam Society. Part of the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art’s annual IlluminAsia Festival to celebrate, convene, learn, reflect, and foster connections through Asian arts and cultures!

Location: The Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art, Freer Gallery, Meyer Auditorium. Washington DC. Free tickets HERE.
